VOLUME WIN'S THE IIAWKE'S BAY CUP. [BY TELEGKAPM.— association!) Xapier, Wednesday. The Hawke'a Bay Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting was commenced to-day. The course «#» rather on the soft tide, but the weather Was perfect and there was a very large attendance. The fields were all large and there were some good finishes. A double totalizator w:ia used lor the Gift- time for many years, and this was well patronised, the double being the Porangahau Handicap and Htnvke's Bay Cup. The winning combination (Contender, and Volume) paid £56 . Bs. The amount invested on the totalisators, including the double machine, was £10,443, an increase of £2 over the first day of last year's autumn meeting.
