:■■■■'■'■'■.-• THAMES, Wednesday, f AT the monthly medtinif of the Thames Harbour Board, held' last night, a communication was read from the Hon. J. A- Millar. Minister for Marine, respecting the Turn* wharves, as follows:—"With' reference to the recent ■ correspondence ;• regarding the wharf at Turaa, I have 'to state that as there seems to be some misapprehension in the' mind of both parties concerned, I take the opportunity of making the position perfectly clear to your Board. The arrangement is 'that the wharf is to be purchased by the Thames Harbour Board at a price to, bo fixed by valuation, and that in the event of your. Board not being able to pay r.asn. Messrs. Baenaß Bros, arc to receive a rebate of 50 per cent, of the ordinary wharf charges on all goods shipped by 'then: until me capital value ?-8 assessed by the valuers has been paid back. I have therefore to request that the. Board will appoint some person to act as valuer on their behalf, so that the matter j may: bo settled at once. I am writing a letter in similar terms to Messrs. Bagnail Bros., so that there may be no further misunderstanding or delay. The wharf should be under the control of the Harbour Board, and 1 desire to have it so, bat J. the same time I do not wish to c'o anything which might be deemed to be of a confiscatory character. Horetcr, unless the arMer is arranged at once on 'the terms above mentioned, I shall deem it to be ray duty to take the necessary stops to define the wharf as prescribed by law." ■ The secretary of the Shipwreck Relief Society wrote asking; for the assistance of the Board towards the objects of the society, and a donation of £5 was granted.
