CONTINUED GEYSER ACTIVITY
On Saturday last Pohutu geyser gave three fine displays (says the Hot Lakes Chronicle), the first taking place at twenty-si* minutes to nine ' a.m., and lasting 23 minutes. The second eruption occurred at seven minutes to eleven •a.m., andthogeyser on' this occasion played : until sixteen minutes past eleven o'clock. In the afternoon, at twenty-seven minutes past three o'clock, a,third eruption occurred, and for. ten minutes Pohutu sent its boiling liquid to heights varying from 20ft to 60ft.
On Sunday morning, at sixteen minutes to twelve, Pohutu gave another display, the eruption lasting for fifty minutes, during which! time there were.some beautiful shots. Again in the afternoon, at half-past four, , yet another eruption • took place, the display lasting forty-six minutes, to the admiration of a large number of visitors and townspeople. ' • On both days Te Horu (the cauldron) was very active prior to the eruptions of the geyser, and threw its boiling water several times to a considerable height. "Waikorohihi a"i;d the Prince of rWaliil/ Feather geysers played at intervals on both days, and attracted a large number ot spectators. Just at present, Whakarewarewa 1 is more than usually attractive. :; On Monday, Wafkite geyser was exceedingly active, and - Waikorohihi • played throughout the day. At five , minutes <to one p.m. Pohutu gave a fine display, discharging its boiling water for an hour and twenty minutes. At five minutes past five p.m. another eruption of this geyser took place, which lasted for forty-two. minutes. The Prince of Wales' Feather geyser played throughout while Pohutu was in a state of eruption, and the Kereru geyser sent forth an' excellent shot on each occasion when Pohutu played. t . On Tuesday, the Waikite geyser was in the same active state as \i ha? been since it played last Tuesday week. The Pohutu cauldron (Te Horu) boiled up furiously at half-past two p.m., throwing up water several times to heights varying from 20ft to 25ft. Fourteen minutes later the Prince of Wales' Feather geyser commerced to play, throwing its water 20ft high, and three minutes after this Pohutu gave a fine exhibition continuing to . play for fortyeight minutes. The Waikorohihi geyser was active all day, and the same may be said of the Kereru geyser. •
