CLARA BUTTS ACCIDENTS.
Madame Claea Butt, the great contralto, who, with her husband, Mr. Konnerley Rumford, will shortly visit the colonies, possesses the most remarkable . faculty for meeting, with accidents. On ,ono occasion she was pitched out of a. very,higb-wheeled dogcart, falling ' on her head with, such •force that she became unconscious. She was picked up for dead arid conveyed to the present Lady Redosdale's house, which, though nearly two miles off, was the nearest habitation to the place of the accident. When the - doctor arrived he found her suffering from concussion of the brain, and for some time her condition was serious. Helped by the kindness and attention of Lady Redesdale, she quickly recovered, however, and the only ultimate^ill-effect.was a little nervousness when driving. On another occasion she and her husband, Mr. Kennerlcy Rumford, set out with the intention of having half-an-hour on the river after dinner. It was quite dark, and, by mistake, they stepped into a small dingey instead of a-large one. , The result of this mistake was that they were, both thrown into the water. As. they fell the husband grasped his wife's hair, and,, being quite close' to tho landing-stage they were eventually hauled out with, nothing worse thana bad wetting. '.■•-•■' -,-, r
