[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. Good prospects are still being met with in the winze being sunk below No. 6. level on No. 4 lode of the New May Queen mine. The winze is now down to a depth of about 50ft below the level. The quartz coming to hand from the lodo at the bottom is of good quality, and shows gold freely at each breaking down. In the crosscut at No. 5 level for the St. Hippo reef a milder channel of country has been met with during the week. The change has enabled better progress to be made, and if the good country continues a few weeks more should see the reef to hand. Preparations are being made to reopen up the block of ground on No. 4 lode, at No. 5 • level, which was being successfully worked by the old company at the time the Hauraki pump was closed down some years ago, and which had to be then abandoned in consequence of the influx of water. Operations in the stopes on No. 4 lode, above No. 6 level, are still being continued without any material change, and a steady supply of payable ore is being obtained, on "which the battery is kept running one shift per day. NEW SAXON. [by TELEGRAPH.OWN" correspondent.! Thames, Saturday. Most of the dead work at the Now Saxon, necessary to prepare for the new scheme of works laid out by the directors, is now completed, and a fair start made with the new works. At No. 2 level driving eastward on the No. 2 Cardigan lode has been commenced, and it is intended to continue this drive for some distance in the expectation of picking up some of the runs of gold worked in the lower levels, and which were worked Upwards to within about 40it of the No. 2 level. Stoping operations have also been commenced on the Saxon No. 2 reef, at No. 4 level, but as yet no quartz has been broken out. The stopes are being carried along the wall of the reef, which is being stripped. The parcel of quartz accumulated from the workings on the Cardigan No. 1 reef below No. 4 level has been forwarded to the battery, and is now in process of treatment, which will take a. few days to complete. ALBURNIA. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ! Thames, Saturday. The main tunnel of the Alburnia mine has been driven a further distance of 12ft for the week through the stringers in the hangingwall of the big reef, and the. face of the tunnel appears now to be. in the hangingwall country of the quartz formations. As no stringers were met with in the last few feet driven, work in the face has been now suspended for the present-, and a start has been made to drive eastward on the main reef to get under the portion of the mine where the rich runs of gold were worked in the upper levels, which is some distance eastward of where the reef was cut. THAMES. [by TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. There is as yet no change in the nature of the rock being met with in the main crosscut for the Nonpareil section of the Thames mine, the face being in a hard blue bar. It is impossible to say what, the extent of it will be. KUR ANUI-CA L AN. [BY TELEGRAPH- —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Saturday. The prospecting works at the, KuranuiCaledonian mine, on the junction of the No. 2 reef and specimen leader, aie still being continued at the intermediate level, but as yet no improvement has taken place in the' quartz met with. The work of opening up on the Red Queen leader, from the bottom of the tributers' working to No. 4 level, is also in hand, but nothing of importance has yet been met with in the stopes. On the block of ground on the Cure reef, below No. 6 level, payable crushing dirt is being obtained, and a parcel of ore from these workings is now undergoing treatment at the battery. It is understood that this company are at present contemplating a new scheme of operations submitted by the manager, which will probably be put into operation in the near future. KURANUI. Mr. J. W. Nh hoi (local secretary) received the following telegram on Saturday from the manager of the Kuranui foifl mine;—" Crushed six tons from footwall branch for 2Uoz retorted gold." WATCHMAN. The mine manager of the Watchman Gold Mining Company. Limited, reports as follows:—A reef 20in wide has-been passed through in the level towards the Windfall reef. It is encased in favourable country.
