An extraordinary disease has attacked a crop of turnips on Mr. R. J. Saggs property on the Fernridge, Wairarapa. The. blight, or whatever form of disease it is, first made its appearance on the- crown of the bulbs ill black streaks, and working downwars in a short space, reduced every turnip in a 16acre paddock to a peculiar pulp-like substance. Three weeks ago the turnips were apparently in perfect condition, and the destructive nature of the disease may be gathered from the fact that the whole mischief wrought, by it was accomplished in five days, entailing a considerable loss to Mr. Saggs. The spreading of the disease would be a serious matter for settlers in the Fernridge, where some extensive and first-class crops are in the ground. The Agricultural Department have been communicated with on the matter. There is no danger of croup resulting seriously if Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is given, For. sale everywhere Is &d.
