WRESTLING.

Considerable interest is being manifested in wrestling in Now Zealand lately, and especially in Auckland. Professor Potter and Mr. ,1. H. Trudgeon intend holding a tournament, at. mi early date. Two verv successful meetings of competitors have been held at Mr. Triidgoon's, Victoria-si r< <>t., and hot have been largely attended. Already over 30 members have expressed their willingness to support the propositions that were submitted for their approval at those meetings. Mr. J'lugge, of King College, was unanimously elected to act in the capacity of referee at a tournament, to bo held shortly, and lie has consented to fill the position. In order to make wrestling more interesting from a spectator's point of view, the management have restricted ground wrestling to a limit of three minutes.

The style to be adopted for the championships will lie cafch-as-catch-can. It has also been decided to introduce the Cumberland lid ju-jitsu styles, there being many good exponents of those styles in Auckland. In accordance with the wishes of the competitors. special rules are to be printed and issued to all those who intend to participate in tho contests.

Tin l Auckland Amateur Wrestling Club intend holding a championship tournament on May 2. Besides two professional events, there are on t.he programme middle, heavy, and lightweight, championships for amateurs. All oven» are in catch-as-catch-can style. Entries close with the secretary on Saturday, the 20tli.
