BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Finance: The Finance Committee recommended the payment of accounts amounting to £752 Os ?d on the administration account, £551 9* Id on the building account, and £SVI5 V Ite 2d on the manual and technical account. The committee reported that the Supremo Court had sustained tho Hoard's appeal against, the decision of the stipendiary magistrate in the case of Small (truant officer) versus Russell, and rttat, the truant oilicer had been instructed to withdraw farther proceedings in the eases which were adjourned by tile magistrate pending the resuit of the appeal. The committee submitted a return of time-expired contracts for school buildings, together witi port from tho architect thcrrori, nad recommended that tho architect; be instructed to expedite completion of the works, and, to insist upon! tho time penalty being enforced in terms of the conditions in every instance in which the delay .minor be, explained to the satisfaction of the Board. The committee having considered tho conditions of contracts, with a view to their amendment, and having conferred with the architect thereon, recommended that the chairman should have authority to deal with the matter, and with the communication received from the Institute of Architects and the Builders' Association 01 the subject. Technical School Staff: The director of technical education (Mr. George George) roported on the technical school office stafF, and recommended the appointment of a chief clerk at £200 per annum, find the increase of two of tho present clerks from £60 to £70.
