TARANAKI OIL COMPANY.
THE BIRTHDAY WELL.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
New Plymouth, Friday. Considerable interest is being manifested in connection with the Taranaki Oil Company s Birthday well. This morning the directors decided to allow the gas to escape and if possible exhaust itself. The tap was therefore turned on, and at the latest report the gas is still rushing out with great pressure. How long it may continue to do so is hard to say, for the effect of keeping the well sealed down for so many months may have caused an immense quantity of gas to accumulate in the oil veins. This morning transactions in shares took place at 17s 3d, but a slight relapse occurred later. [BY TELEGRAPH.- —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] New Plymouth, Friday. The flow of oil at the Birthday well was continuous all-day to-day until"it was shut off at five o'clock. Large outlet pipes have now been secured and these will be fixed to-morrow morning. The well will then be allowed to run until all the reservoirs and 200 barrels in stock have been filled.
