CRUISER. SQUADRON FOR
AMERICA

London', April 4. Thk First Cruiser Squadron lias left Plymouth for tin' United States. It is to represent the navy at the exhibition at Jamestown, Virginia.
Eight bluejackets escaped in a cutler in the darkness last night from the battleship Mars, lying at Portland, landed at Weymouth, and took train for London.
The first English settlement in the United States was founded at Jamestown in 1607, on a promontory (now an island), on the James River. Of the original settlement there now remain only the ruins of a church tower and soma farm buildings. The First Cruiser Squadron is attached to the Channel fleet, and is commanded by Rear-Admiral Neville. It consists of the cruiser Good Hope, which lias a tonnage of 14,100, a speed of 24 knots, and carries six 9.2 in guns, and the sister eiuisers Devonshire, Argyll, Antrim, Roxburgh, and Hampshire, each of 10,700 tons, and a speed of 22* knots. These cruisers carry five 7.Sin guns.
