A GROWING INDUSTRY".
Amoxi; the growing industries of the Auckland province, and one which is fast taking a leading place, is that of hemp. The Government hemp grader in Auckland (.Mr. W. H. 0. Johnstone) has prepared a return, which shows that tor the month of March he handled 5557 bales of hemp, weighing 876 tons 15cwt, and valued at £29.000. In March, 1906, 50*7 bales, weighing 812 tons lOcwt, were graded, showing an increase for last month of 510 bales and 64 tons scwt in weight. For the 12 months ended March 31 the hemp graded represented a monefary value of £265,000. This highly satisfactory amount represented 50.219 bales,, weighing 7991 tons lOcwt. As compared with the previous 12 months the year just closed showed an increase of 3009 bales, representing in weight 384 tons 9cwt.
