CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the City Schools' Committee was held at Nelson-street school last evening. Present: Messrs. F. M. Mackay (chairman), A. Rosser, W. J. Jeffrey, Wm. Robins, E. Sherson, F. E. N. Gaudin,' Dr. Hard ; e Neil, J. Small (secretary).

Animal Studies: A number of fine oleographs of domestic animal studies was brought beforo the committee by the chairman. They were intended for the Nelsonstreet infant school.

Chapel-street School: The chairman, reporting on the appointment of Miss Eastgate as first assistant at. Chapcl-scroet school, said everything was now working very satisfactorily there. Beresford-street School: Mr. Hart, headmaster of the Beresford-street school, wrote stating that the alienation ci any part of the school ground for the proposed Girls' High School would bo a mistake, in view of future requirements. The ground was now used by the boys as a cricket ground. The chairman stated that the ground wou'.d probably soou be required for d new infants' department. It would bj foolish to part with a single foot of thr.t land. Mr. Sherson moved, and Mr. Rc-sser seconded, "That the Board of Education be informed that this committee most Rcrenuousl; resists .-.ny alienation of the Beresford-street school ground for the proposed Girls' High School.." Carried.

Fire Alarm Drill: Mr. Hart, headmaster of the Beresford-street school, reported that in view of the recrnt fatal fir? at a Canadian public school h'j had had th & school be'.', rang as an ala'.m, without foreknowledge o.i (he part of die teachers or children, t.vA that the school was clea'cd of 600 scholars and teachers, without panic or disorder, r.i 57 seconds. The Late Mr. Seddon: It was resolved to place a portrait of the late M'. R. J. Sud'Jon in the Nelson-street Infant School, and, as opportunity permitted, to proiide each school with a portrait a the late Prime Minister, the matter tr> bo left in the hands ci the chairman.
