Frk mantle, February 24. Thk. mate and ten hands of the barque Carnarvon Castle arrived here in the ship's boat this morning. They report that the vessel took lite on January 31, and was destroyed. She was then about 800 mile.i soulh'-west of Cape Leeuwin. The captain and 16 hands left the vessel in the second lifeboat later in the day. News has hep,i received here that the lifeboat arrived at ('ape Naturaliste. near Cape Leeuwin. and that an apprentice named Owen and a, sailmaker named Higgs is dead. No further details are vet to hand.
The Carnarvon Castle was an iron ship of the following dimensions: —Length, 229 ft; breadth, 36ft: depth, 22ft; tonnage. 1221. She was built at Glasgow in 1867, and was owned by Mr. O. S. S. Piper, of London. The vessel was on liar voyage from Liverpool to Melbourne.
