THE SQUALL. The Union Company's steamer Squall, Captain James, arrived from Gisborn* and Tolago Bay at 4.30 p.m. yesterday and berthed at Queenetreet Wharf. The steamer left Gisborn* at 5 n.m. on Sunday last and called at Tolago Bay. l'a.«se<l Cape Runaway at 9 a.m. on Monday and arrived aa above. Experienced southerly wind and moderate sea to arrival. When the steamer was off the East Cape on Monday an accident happened to her machinery, necessitating a delay of about five hours while temporary repairs were effected.-• * -' ■ ■ *

THE VENTURA. The local agents of the- Oceanic Steamship Company received a cablegram from Honolulu yesterday to the effect that the mail steamer Ventura arrived at midnight on Saturday. The steamer, which left San Francisco 40 hours late, is expected to arrive hero about Saturday, February 9. THE HANDA ISLE. The barquentine Handa Isle, Captain Dennison, arrived from Newcastle yesterday afternoon with a cargo of coal and anchored in tin; stream. The. barquentine, which sailed from Newcastle on December 27, was delayed by strong contrary winds. THE PONDO. Tlie e.a. Pondo left Suva for Auckland yesteiijay and is clue about February 5.
