ENTERTAINMENTS.
HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.
THERE was a large audience at His Majesty's Theatre last evening to see the musical comedy. " The Orchid," produced by Mr. J. C. Williamson's Royal Comic Opera Company. Once Again the audience were sent away delighted with the acting, singing, and dancing of the artists, and the humour of the piece. "The Orchid" will be repeated this evening, and on Thursday night it will be replaced by "The Cingalee."
The " Cingalee " is said to be replete with smart dialogue, bright topical songs, catchy solos, and beautiful duets. Throughout the opera the scene on the stage is said to be one of life and! gorgeous colour, the mounting and the scenery being of the highest order. Mr. Monckton's music rises to a higher standard in this score than in any he has previously submitted to the public. The choruses are cleverly worked out, and appropriate to the situation, and the orchestration is musicianly and effective. The solos, for some of which Mr. Paul Rubens is responsible, are said to be equally delightful. To-day being a holiday, the box plans for the last two nights of " The Orchid" and' the five performances of "The Cingalese" will be on view at His Majesty's Cafe front nine a.m. to six p.m.
