THREATENING A FOOTBALL REFEREE.

CHARGES WITHDRAWN.

Wellington, Monday. The charge against James Ryan, of behaving in a threatening manner towards the referee in a football match in July last, has been withdrawn. The police had several witnesses, but owing to the lapse of time, many of them were unable to identify the accused. For the defence, it was alleged that Ryan was not the man. Dr. McArthur, S.M., observed that if it was proved to him that any men did create these disturbances, he would deal severely with them.
