A TIDAL WAVE.
London. January 18. A not i a Bay, a large bay on the northern coast of the island, was visited by a- tidal wave yesterday. Many houses were swept away. (Received January 20. 4.31 p.m.) Kingston, January lit. Tidal waves at Annota Bay swept small vessels inland. EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. Kingston. January 18. One thirtieth, not, one thirteenth, as previously reported, of Kingston has been destroyed by lire. More, shocks were experienced yesterday. CHINESE SHOPS LOOTED. Kingston, January 18. The Chinese in Kingston reopened provision shops, and raised the prices of food one thousand per cent. This so angered tin; populace that a hostile demonstration was made, and the Chinese tied. Their shops were* then looted. Bananas are plentiful, so that a famine will not occur.
