THAW MURDER TRIAL.
MOVE THAT WILL DELAY HEARING
FOR MONTHS
The trial of Harry Thaw, the young Pittsburg millionaire, for the murder of Mr. Stanford White, the wealthy clubman ami architect, will not take place for months in consequence of the appointment of a roving commission to take evidence. Justice Newburger, of the Supreme Court of the United Suites, has granted the application of Mr. Thaw's counsel for the appointment of a, Commission to take the evidence of witnesses outside the State. Evidence will be taken both for the prosecution and for the defence. Among (lie witnesses mentioned are Mr. Thoma.s McCaleb and Mr. Truxtou Beale, who are said to have dined with Mr. Thaw on the evening of the tragedy, and are now in California. On the suggestion of the district attorney, it was decided that the interrogatory Commission should be empowered to a.sk the witnesses a list of questions previously prepared. The district attorney said he wanted the evidence of the mother, brother, and sister of Mrs. Thaw, and possibly also of a witness now in South Africa. Mr. Thaw's counsel exclaimed that if the prosecution waited for evidence from South Africa they might not be' ready to proceed before midsummer. The district attorney made no reply. The South African witness is Ida Veronica Simon ton, who, the prosecution understands, knows all about the transactions at Paris between Mr. Thaw and hi& wife. Thaw shot White in the Madison Square Roof Garden Theatre, and gave as his reason that deceased had made overtures to Mrs. Thaw, who before her marriage was a famous artist's model.
