WINTER SHOW
THE DAIRY SECTION RUIZES
EvKßTTinxfi points to the success of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association's winter show, which will be held in the Drill Mali. commencing on May 22. The Show Committee is at present busily engaged preparing the detail* in connection with the show, and. while it is ret too parly to give any comprehensive outline or scheme, it may be said that the exhibition promises to be on a very large scale. It is held ly those interested in agriculture that there i--110 reason why Auckland, with its immense variety of products, should not bo able to excel the hi:; winter exhibitions in Dunedin and I'almer«:on North. To this end everything possible is to be done to arrange for a huge v.int r carnival week, when :'■ is expected that \ isitors from various part. of the colony ami from every ■ ■•;• lenient in Auckland Province will be m- - -nt. Substantial prizewill be allotted in thi- division. Then there will be a iiifu'hiiseri court, in which will I" staged working models of dairy ami other machinery, ami it is intended 10 have special classes for roots, v.< il, fruit, poultry, -ecus, etc. The committee desires to stage a monster cheese, in which will be a number of sovereigns and other coins, and the cheese will bo cut and .sold in suitably-sized pieces during the show, while there will also be entertainment programmes-. The Fanners' Freezing Company i- offering to pro-. a. special feature, in the shape of bouquet -i of flowers in blocks of ice, frozen tish and game, chilled fruit. frozen meat, etc., and 1! iexpected that the Department of Agriculture will have a court in which to display seeds, wines, grasses, fruits, insect pest, parasites, etc. On every hand the project i*> meeting with the most cordial support, and the association is assured that, town and country will combine to make the winter show one of tin- most successful and representative exhibitions ever hold in Auckland. A feature will be made of the dairying industry, and the prize list has already Ixjcn prepared, and is being circulated throughout the colony. Those interested in tin.' industry state that this is expected to be the greatest snow of butter ever seen in the colony. There are no less than 13 classes in the dairv section, 10 for butter and five for cheese. Prizes of £10, £5. £3, £2. and five of £1 each are offered for the l>est two boxes of export, butter taken out, of grading store in March next, prizes of £7, £5. £?., and £1 for two boxes of butter suitable for export, manufactured under the most favourable conditions: prizes of £7, £5, £2. and £1 for box of butter manufactured for export in Auckland Province: prizes of £10, £5, £3, and £2 for box of butter manufactured in Auckland, and open to members of the Auckland Dairymen's Association: prizes of £5, £3, and £2 for 51b creamery butter for retail trade; £5 and special, £3, and £2 for box farmers' butter: a gold medal and the championship of New Zealand for best box of butter in the show; and thes there are large prizes for dairy butters, in widen factories are not eligible for competition. In the five cheese classes ve.rv substantial prizes are aiso offered. In » week or two the Show Committee will enter on a scheme of definite programme and arrangements.
