Mr. (J. Haselden. formerly of Patea, nephew of Judge Haseld.ll. was a passenger from Svdnev to Wellington by the Monowai 011' Wednesday. Mr. Haselden holds a position in the Colonial Secretary's office at Pretoria.

Dr. Robertson, acting-medical superintendent of the Wellington Hospital during Dr. Ewart's absence in the Old Country, has been granted one month's leave of absence. Dr. Robertoon left Wellington by the Moeraki yesterday for a holiday trip to Sydney and Melbourne.

The Rev. E. G. Gauge. F.R.A.S., one of the best- known Baptist ministers in England, is at present touring Australasia, and may be expected in Auckland about the first week in February. Yesterday the Premier of Tasmania (the Hon. J. W. Evans), in company with the chairman of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board (Mr. L. J. Bagnall). paid a visit to the Cost-lev Home and the Auckland Hospital. Mr. Evans was especially pleased with the Costley Home, and thought i* one of the best institutions of the kind he had seen. The manager and staff, lie thought, deserved the highest commendation/ ' The arrangements at the hospital also met with Mr. Evans' approval, its position and .surroundings especially so.

The employees 01 Mr. George Court met in the Federal Rooms the other evening to bid farewell to Mr. Charles Court, a member ot that firm, who is about to take his departure on a. trip to the. Old Country. About 70 ladies and gentlemen, including a number of relatives and friends of the guest, sat down to an excellent repast. The guest was the recipient of a handsome travelling bag, and Mr. T. Frost, manager, in making the presentation on behalf of the employees, spoke in eulogistic terms of the manv good qualities, of Mr. Court, and of the "good feeling which has always existed between him and the employees. The toast of " The Guest" was duly honoured. He responded in a very happy little speech, in which he thanked the employers heartily for their good wishes and expressions of good feeling towards him. Mr. George Court, senior, proposed the toast of "The Ladies," after which an excellent musical programme was proceeded with. Mr. Charles Court leaves by the Manuka on Monday.
