THE DRUCE CASE.
A NEW ZEALAND WITNESS.

London, January 18. There lias been a revival of interest in the Druce case, owing to the announcement that the lady secretary of the fifth Duke of. Portland is coming from New Zealand to suplily sensational evidence.
It was reported in December thai the High Court had issued commissions tor the taking of the evidence of aged witnesses on both skies in the Druce case. Previously it. had been stated that a settlement of the matter hud been armed at, but that (he Duke of Portland was not directly concerned in the negotiations. The fifth Duke of Portland mentioned in the cablegram was the nobleman out of whose eccentricities the case, lias arisen. It is alleged that he lived at. Welbeck Abbey as thr duke, and also carried on a shop in London in the name of Druce. At Welbeck Abbey he made extraordinary excavations., and constructed wonderful chambers underground. This is 1 lie first time that the witness resident in Sew Zealand has been mentioned iu the case.
