QUARREL AMONG AUSTRIANS.

Dargavim.i:. Friday. A dri'NKKN quarrel among Austriaus occurred on Christmas Night- at Dargaville, when two men were seriously injured. As a result 20 charges for rioting, assaults, damaging property with axes, and threaten- i ing to shoot, were heard on Wednesday I last, before Messrs. Downey and Langford, : .I.P.'s. Mr. K. T. Field appeared for the j prosecution, and Mr. R. .1. Coates repre- ! sented all the defendants. Counsel for the prosecution elected to take 10 cases as indictable, and to 10 being dealt- with summarily. He called seven witnesses, including a medical man and the police. The evidence for the defence alleged that, the trouble was begun by the prosecutors, and counsel for the defence contended that there was mi riot, but, only a private fracas. The Bench dismissed all the cases, saying that there were evidently faults on both sides.
