NEW CHURCH AT WAIHI.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— correspondent.]
Waiht, Monday. The new Anglican church was dedicated on Saturday night by the Anglican ..Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Neligan), the building being well filled. The ceremony was of a most interesting, character, the musical portion, of the service being contributed by the combined choirs of the Paeroa, Karangahake and Waihi churches, under the able leadership of Mr. McKinnon. In the course of his address the Bishop referred to the splendid work carried on in the parish during the past three years, and the fine building which had been dedicated to (!od that evening was the result of concerted action on the part of vicar and parishioners. The offertory amounted to £31 5s 6d. The services were continued yesterday, the building at night being taxed to its utmost capacity, and a number were unable to gain admission. The service was of a most impressive character, and the Bishop gave an eloquent address on regeneration. During the evening service the anthem, " Oh For a Closer Walk With God," was sung by the choir, and Mrs. Wilson, of Wellington, rendered " Come Unto Him," from the " Messiah." The offertories for the day amounted to over £15. The dedication festival is to be continued by services each night this week, concluding on Friday night. The Bishop left for Auckland this morning.
