GIPSIES COMING TO AUCKLAND
DISTURBANCE AT AN ENCAMPMENT. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Gisborne, Monday. A domestic disturbance which occurred in the gipsy encampment at Makaraka on Saturday night had its 'sequel in the Police Court to-day, when a Greek named John Joan was charged with . having used threatening behaviour, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned. Defendant's counsel pleaded guilty, and said the matter was simply a quarrel between husband and wife. Defendant's wife was put in the box, and took the blame upon her own shoulders, stating that the trouble had arisen through her not having the dinner ready. The police reported that accused was convicted at Napier in January last upon a similar charge. A fine of £1, and 7s costs, or four days' imprisonment, was imposed. The party, which consists of 21 altogether, including 15 children, are reported by the police to have resided at Clive, near Napier, for many years, and they are not part of the number who were recently admitted into the colony. It is their intention, they state, to leave for Auckland by the first boat. *
