' All through the week the weather was admirable, and no time was lost, the men revelling in their work, and all being anxious to excel. Musketry, distance-judging, company drill, attack and defence of positions, protection of a convoy, and skirmishing formed the routine of instruction?. On the last night sports were held after parade, and bo enjoyable did they prove that the company decided to organise military sports and devote a' day to them. The success of the camp is due to the excellent discipline that prevailed and the line spirit displayed byall. A plain and fancy dress ball, held under the auspices of the Iluntly Football Club, took place in the Volanteer Hall on the 30th ult. During the evening handsome caps, presented by Miss Ralph to teams representing the northern and southern ends of the township, were presented to the winners, who were the representatives of the south end. Excellent music was provided by the Huntly orchestra, under the baton of Mr. E. vSkeilern. The M.C, Mr. A. Turner, performed his duties in a highly efficient manner. Quite « gloom overspread tho town when it was learned that Mr. J. Clout, one of tlie winder* in the employ of the Taupiri Mines. Ltd.. had succumbed to an operation lor an internal complaint on Monday in Auckland, Quiet and unassuming, an ardent churchman and efficient official, Mr. Clout will be sadly missed by a lai'jje circle of friends.
