TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED.

IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS. [Ny TELEGRAPHY CORRESPOXDEXT.] Waihi, Friday. Operations at the Talisman Consolidated are being attended with considerable success just now. The mine reserves hare been considerably added to since last reported upon. The Dubbo ore chute has been readied, and three distinct ore chutes exposed. They are not very extensive so fur, but. the ore laid bare is of an exceptionally high grade, whilst the ore body in places is strong and well defined. The No. 10 level is being worked at a, great depth from the surface. No. 4 level: A rise is in progress from this level upon the up strike, and a height of over 50ft has been readied; good values being met throughout. The management are preparing to commence sinking a large winze upon the lode immediately underneath the rise. The lode is strong at tin's point, and it is the intention to go down on the reef for the purpose of determining the character and value of the ore at a depth, when either Nos. 11, 12, or 13 levels can be advanced to bring either level in contact with the chute of ore. The development of this Dubbo pay chute, or what may be called its discovery at a depth, has been attended with considerable difficulty, for at times the management had only the mere track of the vein in sight. Several crosscuts were thrown off to prove the continuation of the lode, and after driving a length, of close on 2000 ft the ore body has been recovered, and what is most encouraging of all is that the ore contents are of a high . grade character. Sloping operations in the Bonanza section are in steady progress above No. 10 level, and from these sources a large tonnage of ore still continues to come to hand. The most important development in the mine is the discovery of the new vein now.known as the eastern branch. This fine body of ore, which will'average about sft in thickness, stands in the eastern wall -of the main body. The latter has an inclination towards the west, close on to the angle of 45 degrees, whereas the eastern branch stands almost vertical, or with a slight shade towards the west. With the object of locating its exact position a winze is in progress, and a depth of about 70ft has been attained, the lode showing strong all the way clown, and carrying good values. Owing to the steep pitch of this ore body, when No. 12 level is reached, it will be fully 150 ft to the east of the main lode. Consequently a crosscut will have to bo driven to intercept it. This work is to be. proceeded with at once, in order to connect with the winze referred to. Another important discovery has been made at No. 11, level. A small vein which was passed through at No. 10 level, but which was at that point of low grade in value, was recovered at No. 11, and in the latter level it had increased in strength, and measures about 18in in thickness, the ore being of good value. This serves to show that the lodes have a tendency to improve as they reach the deeped country. It also strengthens the idea that the management are not leaving any of the company's ore unexplored. The new air compressor should arrive in Auckland this month, and when installed the umvatering of No. 15 level will be undertaken.

Victoria (December 6): The country encasing No. 1 reef at No. 4 level is still of a dark description, and a small break crossing the face was intersected during the week, disturbing the reef a. good deal.
