Stolypin has assured the "Party of Peaceful Regeneration" that he has taken measures to prevent both reactionaries and terrorists organising violent measures at Odessa. CORRUPTING THE ARMY. The police at Vilna have arrested 29 revolutionaries, mostly soldiers, who -were engaged in attempts to corrupt the army. THE BRITISH DEPUTATION. OBJECTIONS FROM REACTIONARIES. The British residents in Russia strongly object to the presentation of the British memorial to members of the dissolved Duma at the present juncture. -The Russian reactionaries threaten violent counter demonstrations should the deputation come. An Italian deputation is expected to arrive at St. Petersburg simultaneously with the British. Mr. Smeaton, M.P., has withdrawn from the deputation, and Sir W. E. Evans-Gordon, M.P., Mr. W. T. Stead, and others advise the abandoning of the visit. The council of professors of St. Petersburg University by 20 votes to 16 has resolved to entertain the British deputation. London, October 10. The Daily Telegraph says the majority of those who signed the memorial would doubtless repudiate its presentation by such fussy nobodies " as the members of the British deputation.
