FIRE IN WELLINGTON-STREET
A fire broke out in a six-roomed house, tenanted by Mr. T. Tyne, in Wellingtonstreet, shortly after seven o'clock last evening, and resulted in the partial destruction of the building and contents. The inmates of the house smelt something burning, and discovered that an old mattress, which had oeen hung up on some beams in the cellar, was on fire. The mattress was immediately taken outside, but the flames spread quicklv. The City Fire Brigade, however, soon got to work, and succeeded in sub- " duing "he tire, but not before the larger part of the budding had been gutted. The building was owned by Mr. J. T. Mornn, of Otahuhu. It could not be ascertained last evening whether it was insured. The ':'■ whole of Mr. Tyne's furniture was practically destroyed,"and was insured for £150 in the South British, or about £100 less than its estimated value.
