AUSTRALIA'S TRADE LEGISLATION.
INQUIRIES IN LONDON. u By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright London, October 9. Many commercial firms are making inquiries with respect to the regulations contained in the Commonwealth's new Commerce Act, also as to the spirit duties and the preferential proposals. They are eagerly applying for copies of the new Acts. ■\ Under the Commerce 'Act there are | stringent regulations in regard to trade, and especially as to "dumping.'' Provisions in the Act prevent the landing of | goods at prices or in quantities likely to disturb local trade. The new spirit duties are framed in the interests of the local ! manufacturer, and with a view to securing purity of the spirit sold for consumption. The preferential proposals have been carried in the House of Representatives, with a. "white" amendment.
