MAN DETAINED ON V SUSPICION. [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.] . > Oamabu, Wednesday. i The police have detained a man named J. D. Findlay in connection with the Papakaio > murder. They will give no information on the subject, but the man is known to have been about the neighbourhood for some time before and after the murder of Mr. Rennie. He told some people that he was a baker, and others that he was a cook, who ran , away from the steamer Port Stephens when she was in port. As a matter of fact, the man' detained came from the South, and made application to the Canterbury Land Board for a section of laud. The police records show that he has served sentences for housebreaking, etc., but the fact, that he has only been detained, and not arrested, may mean that the police have nothing much to go on. As they are very reticent nothing can be gathered that is not mere rumour.
