The steamer Pocahontas, which struck an obstruction and sprang a leak when entering Port Phillip Heads recently, was docked at Williamstown, when it was found that there was an ir-regularly-shaped hole. 18in long and 6in wide. at the broadest part, in one- of the vessel's bottom ■ plates. The steamer's plating, to the extent of about 10ft astern of the hole, was more or. less seriously., dented, .indicating that she had .-bumped, several times upon the obstruction. In and near the hole fragments of rock were discovered. Experts consider that tin* hole was caused by a pinnacle of rock.
