ATHLETICS.
Labour Day sports will bo held on the Domain on Wednesday next. Tho entries are not numerous, but the quality of tho men is better than last year, and "some interesting races should be witnessed. A fresh item has been added to tho " Wren Five Hundred" carnival programme, to be run in Melbourne next month, in the shape of a walking race. Amongst the many, other items is the mile professional championship of Australia, carrying £30 in prize-money; also a. gold medal and sash for the winner. Nominations closed on September 29. Seven hundred and seventy-five pounds is being given in prize-money. A Melbourne correspondent writes: — Many of the inter-State and one international runner, _ in Maxim Whittingham, have # already arrived in Melbourne to take part in tho big foot-racing carnival of October and November. Others, including B. Elliott, A. B. Postle, and W. McManus, are reported to be on their .way. On the opening night of the Fourth Kalgoorlie "Hundred" meeting Postle won liis heat in tho 75yds handicap from scratch in 7 2-ss. R. Cromie, 2yds, won his heat in 7 3-ss. M. Kenny, 61yds. won the final in 7 l-55.. Cromie was fourth, very close up. AUCKLAND AMATEUR ATHLETIC AND CYCLE CLUB. The annual general meeting of members of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club was held last evening at the rooms of the Sports Club, Mr. Leo. M. Myers, president, in the chair. The report of the committee expressed regreat that, owing to lack of support from competitive members last season, the club was unable to hold carnivals. It was hoped that members would do their utmost to assist tho officers during tho incoming season to bring the club back to the high position it formerly held in the world of, athletics. In moving the adoption of the report, the chairman expressed regret at the apathy shown by competitive members, and the lack of support given to the officers of the olub in their efforts to cater for pure sport. The report was then adopted. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as under:—-President, Mr. Leo Myers (unanimously re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. F. J. Ohlson, M. McLean, and T. B. O'Connor; lion, secretary (pro tern.), Mr. S. S. Dean; hon. treasurer, Mr. C. E. Palmer; Committee of Management, Messrs. G. Donaldson. IM.- J. ) Sheahan, •K. Oliphant, S: W. Soraerfield, Hanson, A. Tilly, and C. Waterman; auditor, Mr. P. R. Eraser. * At a subsequent meeting of tho committee,; it was' decided 1 to' hold a carnival' at an early date on the Victoria Park, if. possible. It was announced that intending competitors in the amateur events, to be decided at the Labour Day's sports on Wednesday next, would be required to pay a registration fee of 2s each to the hon. secretary of the Auckland centre of the Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association (Mr. F. J. Ohlson).
