Committee it was reported that six bands . had entered for the selection and quickstep competitions on November 8 and 9, and that 32 entries had been received for the various ~j solo and quartette competitions. Generally f,( speaking the contest is likely to evoke a , J great deal of interest, as a large number of visitors are expected. Arrangements are being made for special trains. The. Waihi Hockey Club has handed £2 g|§§| to the secretary of tho hospital trustees, be* i ' >,• ing the amount taken at the gates on Wed- _ nesday.' " « I At a meeting of the Waihi Cricket Asso-* eiation last evening it was decidod that at present matches must be played on the matting; that Waikino be not allowed to join the association this season (there being no available ground); that secretaries of tho clubs be notified that players must play in • cricketing boots or shoes.- It was also decided that the match Married v. Single be fixed for October 6, and that on October 13 a match England v. Australasia bo played. The cup matches will be commenced on October 20. The following were appointed it weather committee:—Messrs. WaHnutt, .. ; Barron, and Meyer. The following were appointed selectors of tho teams for the -J Married v. Single match: —Messrs. Cornthvvaite, McKay, Lang, McLeod, Williams, and Taplin. The following were appointed to select th-3 teams in the England v. Australasia match: Messrs. Meyer, Holmes, Burnell, Duff, Lang, and McKay. The draw for the senior competition was as follows:—November 2, Suburbs v. City; November 27, Suburbs v. West; December 3, West v. City. Mr. Duff gave notice that he wished to have rule 21 amended by adding the following words, " that unfinished matches bo played out i; t the conclusion of each round." At a meeting of the Waihi School Committee it was decided that the chairman and secretary sign a testimonial to Mr. BiggWither, who recently resigned from tho staff. Messrs. Cathey, Harper, and Erwin were appointed a visiting committee. Tho headmaster reported that the number of pupils on the roll for the past month was 852, with an. average attendance of 747.
