The Federal Government has accepted the joint tender of the Union Company and Messrs. Huddart, Parker, and Company for the Tasmania*] mail service contract for three yews, from October 1. The contract provides for a threc-times-a-week service between Launceston and Melbourne throughout the year for a subsidy of £11,000, and for a service between Melbourne and Burnie once a week for eight months and twice a week for four mentis of the vear for » subsidy of £2000. CUSTOMS FRAUDS. Adelaide, September 18. The report;of the Board of Inquiry into the extensive Customs frauds in the Forwood case exonerates the Customs officials from blame. The discovery of another set of frauds has created a sensation, the firm concerned hi them being of high reputation. No fraud is alleged against the firm, but against the agents at Port Adelaide, where the Customs operations are conducted.
