TWENTY TONS OF MELINITE.

TREMENDOUS DAMAGE DONE.

Paris. September 17. The magazine at Fort Mont Faucon, near Bcsancon, in France, which, was exploded by lightning on Sunday, contained 20 tons of melinite.

In the explosion tremendous destruction was wrought. All the drawbridges and other means of access to the fort were destroyed, and the only thing in the fort that remained intact was an armoured turret. (Received September 18, 10.16 p.m.) Paris, September 18. The disaster at Fort Mont Faucon, near Besancon, is attributed to a defective lightning conductor, which was being repaired at the time. In the explosion some large stones were hurled a mile.
