DAMAGE TO ROADS AND BRIDGES.

Tmb creeks and rivers in the Matamata district have recently l>een in a. state of the heaviest flood that haw been experienced for '(lie last 10 years (writes our correspondent), and the damage reported in connection with roads, crops, and stock is the most serious that lias taken place for a, great number of yea re. In the Gordon, WardviKc, and Araiiatia. settlements three large bridges and several smaller ones have been removed, and in many places road fillings have been completely washed away. • The' various local bodies have promptly arranged to have the damage repaired, and all the roads will soon lie otiee more open and fit for traffic. In the Matamata district the various improvements recently made by the Road? Department, preparatory to handing.'the settlement roads over to the local bodies-, have nearly all been swept away, so that most of this work will require to be done over again.
