THE CENTRAL MISSION. The Rev. W. D. Maclaren, of London, who is touring the. colony giving lectures on Christian evidences, spoke to a large congregation of men in His Majesty's Theatre at three p.m. yesterday afternoon. The subject of the address was, " Why We Need the Bible." Ho said the Bible took for granted two things, God and sin. The Bible came as God's message of salvation from sin. and not as a solution of our difficulties and doubts. The Old Testament was God's preparation for God's Christ. The new was God's declaration of the Christ. The address was a most thoughtful exposition, and was most attentively listened to. It wa announced that Mr. Bligh, of the. White Ribboil Society, will speak next Sunday afternoon. Mr. Maclaren preached an eloquent and impressive sermon in H.M. Theatre in the evening, basing his remarks on the text •' When I see the blood I will pass over you." Mrs. Black was the soloist for the service. In the morning Mr. A. J. Black preached in the Mission Hall, and evangelistic nddi'f.rics were delivered in the same building in the evening. ST. .HIDE'S CHURCH, A VON DALE A confirmation service was held at St. •hide's Church, Avondale, yesterday at the morning service, when the Anglican Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Neligan) confirmed 21 candidates. THEOSOPHY. At the rooms of the Auckland Theosophical Society last night the weekly public lecture was delivered by Miss K. Davcy on " God. the Alpha and Omega." At the 11.P.13. branch of the Thcosophical Society last night Mr. Re id delivered an interesting lecture entitled " Man and his Relation to the Animal Kingdom."
