Thames, Saturday.

, I'he drive on the north-west lode is now in about 74ft eastward of the junction of No. 4 lode. At present the lode is from 3ft to 41t wide, and is looking very promising. Two or three pounds of very fair picked stone were selected from the quartz broken to-day. In the drive on the footwall branch leader the leader is very small at resent, owing to a hard rib of. ground having been met with. * This will, however, probably soon cut out, and the leader open out atgain. In * the : stopes the leader still looks well, and a little picked stone .is occasionally! selected from the quartz. Eight atopes.are being worked on .the- No. A lode, and a fair supply of payable quarts is being won. At J*o. 6 level a distance of ,93ft has been driven on No. .4 lode. S:> far there is no change in the appearance, of the lode.'. ' • <- :

QUARTERLY. DIVIDEND OF 3s DECLARED.

Advices have been, received at the Auckland office of thVWaihi Gold Mining Company from London that the quarterly dividend of 3s ,per share has been -declared, and will be payable to shareholders on September 1. As the shares in the company number 500,000, the dividend . will absorb £75,000. , -'■•'•. --.-•■ .■'..; /.,'•■■ WAIOTAHI. YIELD FOR YEAR, £159,744. . la the course of his report for the 12 months ended June 30 to be' presented to shareholders of the Waiotahi Gold Mining Company at the annual meeting to' be held on Tuesday, July 31, the mine manager (Mr. Geo. Warne) says:—" During the, past year 10,772 tons of quartz, 97cwt 601b of picked stone were treated, for 58,474.bz 2dwt of melted gold; valued at 1 £159,744 2a lid. As to the future , of your mine, , yon have still 40ft in heigh* of good ore between Nos. 3 and 4 levels, and 50ft between Nos. 4.and 5 levels, whilst; the block of aground -between Nos. ■■■6: and 6 levels is still.intact. Oil ; the -Cure reef we are opening up 4 what I hope 'will prove to,be an extensive 5 block of ' payable ground. Apart from the rich ran, there is a large.amount of ■ payable quarts still unmined,; and with the present development works going on, and./others that I have in contemplation, there are great possibilities .of opening * up. further payable ground. in" other parts of the mine.',' DREDGING RETURNS. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Thames; (July < 20) Taking along . the leading stope over the drive on No. 1 reef has been continned and -lOOft.in length on the reef is stripped. A3 soon'as the mullock from the level has been cleaned' ; ud the reef will be broken down and the drive timbered up. ;• The work atoping out the block over the drive can then be continued and driving resumed on the; reef in the south drive.

Auckland (July 20): During the past week the No.- 4' level' north has been extended ' 12" .and soft sliding country '« now met; with, which haa greatly. disturbed the reef. In the No. 3 level south the drive on the Studholm* reff.has been extended Bft. ■ The reef here is of i flinty nature and of poor quality. •'.-.-.'>

■New Dart (July 20): The drive has been extended 28ft for the week, and the country has undergone little change. It is,* if anything, a little easier, with small veins of quarts and silica running through it. ': - •

Golden Belt (July 18): The drive south on the reef at No. 2 level is now 100 ft south from the main winze. , : The reef is looking exceedingly well, and during the past few days the ore coming from: this drive has shown nice dabs of-gold. Stoping operations have been carried on as usual and the reef maintains its size and values. The drive north on the reef, at No. 3 level is now in 118 ft from the main crosscut and the reef looks well. The battery has worked 80 tons with 20 stamps, for the week and the amount of hot water squeezed amalgam obtained is 2440z.

New Moanataiari (July 20): The small leader being driven on from the bottom of the winze on the Cambria reef is making more compact again, is a little stronger, and continues to show gold at each breaking down,- Good progress is being made :in the south crosscut, 18ft having been driven for the week, and the ground continues soft and heady, and is now dipping towards us, showing that we ; are through into-the spur on the. south side .of the Waiotahi Creek.. ■ Rising Sun (July' 20): During the week driving on the hangingwall* of the reef has been continued and fair progress has been made considering the- nature of the ground being penetrated, '6ft having been driven, making lift since starting. The country encasing the reef is ■a' good firm sandstone. The reef is -15in'..wide and a few colours of gold are obtained by pounding. The drive on the reef at the south end has reached a- total distance of lift from the crosscut, and is still penetrating a good channel of country.- There is no change,, in the reef since last reported. Fair prospects are got by pounding. Fifteen, feet more.driving will bring us into the hangingwall crosscut. N-Sunbeam- (July. 20): We bav» got the level, west of the .flatsheet in good order back to where we are eutting out the chamber' for, the wiruse. The atopes east of the airway are producing » fair amount of good .ore. and : the reef coming west from the Airway, both in the drive and leading stops. is looking very well and will" average 2ft ; 6in in width. .The battery has been working well during the week, and the'"average assay, as taken at the lip of the box. was £2 19s Bd. Old Albiirnia (July ,20): Good progress is being made with the extension of the Albumin main tunnel, and during the week a. further distance of.lift, has been driven. The face is still penetrating the hard bar, which, although very bard to bore into, is of » jointy -nature and shoots well, thus enabling good progress to.be made.

New Saxon (July 20): The sinking of the twd winws- on the Cardigan lode below No. 4 level has been continued, and fair progress has been made with the work, the No. 1 winr.e having now reached a depth of -37ft and the No. 225 ft. In both winzes the reef continues to look weli, containing favourable mineral and showing gold, although but little picked stone has yet been secured. It is intended to drive on the lode-from the bottom of these winzes as soon ,as they have reached a sufficient depth to give a rcssonable-sired block of ground for stoping up to the floor of the level. This will 'be in the course of about another week as regards No. 1 winze.

■ New Monowai (July 20): The low level is now in 1111 ft from the crosscut. The eountry is very favourable and quarts stringers are still being seen. - -.-"'.:. ■■■■-.. ,'.:., . ■_ :■ .'. ~ ■

Tairua Broken Hills (July 20): The drive north from MeNaughton's erosseut on the new reef is being continued. 32ft, having been driven. During the last few days the reef has been somewhat pinched, but .there is every indication it will open cut again. The ore broken from this level is still of a good payable" character. The ; drive west from the main rise at, the 120 ft level has been extended 25ft since the work-was resumed. The ore coming to hand is still of fcood payable qualitv. Stoping hes been carried on as usual and highlv payable ore has been coming to hsnd. The hot water squeezed amalgam for eight days totals 4200ji. • ";" : ,- - - ' '
