TWO SHOPS GUTTED AT PALMER-

STON SOUTH

Dunedin, Saturday.

The .shops at Palmeraton South occupied by .; Mr. Beck (painter) - and : Mrs. Clements (general store) : were completely gutted by fire early, this morning. The buildings were owned by. Mr. Johnston, a resident of Roslyn. Beck's stock is insured in the Standard office for £150,' and Mrs. Clement's stock in the Victoria office for £200.

A four-roomed house at Waikirio, owned by Mr. D. Regan, and occupied by Mr. W. McGregor, was destroyed by fire last evening. When the fire occurred Mrs. McGregor was the only one in the house, her husband being at work, and it appears she had placed some clothes in front of the fire to dry. % The clothing apparently eaughf fire, and the flames spread with great rapidity. Mrs. McGregor rushed outside for assistance, but' the fire had such a hold that the neighbours could render no help. The building was insured in the Imperial office lor £120, and the furniture in the Norwich Union office ; for £100. -;•■'. Mi.
