PIAKO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Piako County Council'was held in To Aroha on Wednesday. Present : Messrs. T. Gavin (county chairman), Lamey, McCaw,: King, Kcelcy, Main, Thomas, aud Donaldson " •. "Harrison wrote with reference \ to the- proposed bridge, across the Waihou ) River at Turanganioana. lie considered that a bridge at the site proposed, if constructed in accordance with Government requirements, would cost £600, and the approaches and connections with existing roads about £200. He thought also that, taking into consideration the great area, of the watershed and theprobability of the stream being used for timber flotage, a dilferent kind of bridge from that contemplated would be necessary. This would entail a further expenditure of from £250 to £300. It was resolved to forward a copy of Mr. Harrison's letter to the settlors interested and to inform them that, the chairman was in communication with' the members for the district with a view to obtaining an increased grout from the Government. •Mr. John Gillies. Cambridge, wrote asking to have, some hills between his place, and Ferguson's Gully gravelled. . It was resolved .to inform him that the Council will do their tost to put the road in order when the weather is suitable. Mr. George J. Neal, of Cambridge, asked 'the intentions of the Council with regard to the survey .of- a road' through Karapiro district-Cam-' bridgV-Taupo Road, as he was putting in crops. Mr. Keelcy said, he had explained to Mr..,Neal that the "survey was being made to ascertain the true line of the road for, the purpose of placing'telegraph poles. There" would probably be no necessity to remove any' fences. The town clerk, Cambridge, wrote asking the Council to make arrangements for paying 'half its share of the construction of the proposed Cambridge high level bridge. The clerk estimated that the amount required would be about '£1250.
