[BT TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] . Wellington," Friday. The Trades Council last evening decided unanimously to protest against the appointment of Mr. W. J. Culver, late secretary of the Liberal- and Labour Federation, as inspector of factories. The grounds of objection were that the appointment was a political reward for services to the federation and that Mr. Culver's health would not permit him to satisfactorily perform the duties of inspector.
