ATHLETICS.
The New Zealand Athletic Union has applied [or representation on the Sports Committee of tin; Now Zealand Exhibition. According to a Southern writer L C. MeLachlan, the New Zealand professional champion, and K. Hourigan, the New South Wales runner, have arranged another meeting. This match will he decided over three distances, 100 yds, 130 yds, and 150 yd-:. The stake is a. purse of lOOsovs. The first doposit of £25 each has been made with Mr. Eagleton, tobacconist, of Napier, and ho will hand it to the Mayor of Napier, who will act as stakeholder. The second deposit of £25 has to be made to-day. • The match will probably take place oil Monday next. A. G. Jennings, the English wrestler, at present in Sydney, has issued a challenge to meet any man .in the world for from £100 to £1000 a-side. He is anxious to get a match on with any man in Australasia. Justice Fitzgerald, of the. Supreme Court of New York, has decided against Arthur E. Duffey, the sprinter, who began a suit to compel the Amateur Athletic Union of America and Mr. James K. Sullivan to place upon their • record books the records of Arthur Duffey that were expunged by them last November. The justice had taken at least a month to vender his decision, aik? the fact that he decided against Duffoy roves conclusively that, the Amateur Athletic Union had a perfect right, to arrange its own records, and, further,'the expunging ol: Arthur Dutiey s name from the record books has been legally endorsed. The New Zealand Athletic Union has entered into a reciprocal arrangement with the Athletic League of Australia whereby its disqualifications will lie recognised bv the governing bodies of professional sport in the Commonwealth States.
