CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH ELECTION.
A WRIT FOR DAMAGES.
[by -telegraph:—own • cOrresi'Ondent.3
Cambridge, Thursday. In connection with borough affairs the Mayor has given notice of his intention to issue a writ for damages for alleged libellous statements made at a meeting of Mr. Taylor's supporters, and published in the Waikato Argus: Feeling runs very high just now, audi it is expected this will continue with unabated vigour till the election is over on Thursday next.
The Hon. Jas. McGowan and Dr. Mason arrived here this morning. In company with the Mayor, they visited the present and proposed saleyards sites. Subsequently a committee of citizens waited on them, and pointed out that it was only necessary to have the yards cleaned, and not to remove them. I understand that the Department of Health will not interfere until after the election.
