THE HAMILTON PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH.
FOUNDATION-STONE LAID. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Thursday. The foundation-stones of the first Primitive Methodist Church at Hamilton were ,laid yesterday afternoon by Mr. H. J. Greenslade, M.H.R., and Mr. Edward Watkins. There was, a large number-of spectators, notwithstanding the very bad weather. After a, short service, the Rev. W. S. Potter said that the connection had a friendly eye on the Waikato. Southern settlers were coming into the district, and the Church authorities were asked to keep in touch with these people. A requisition was signed by a good many people, and sent to the conference. The result was that Mr. Mairs was appointed to Hamilton. He was a good worker, and one who took a great interest iii the total abstinence cause. The Rev. J. Dawson then presented a mallet to Mr. Greenslade, and asked him to lay the foundation-stone. He then placed.in position a stone bearing the inscription: "This stone was laid to the glcry of God by H. J. Greenslade, May 30, 1906." Mr. Greenslade then gave a short address. He expressed the hope that the denomination would succeed in the work they were endeavouring to carry on. Mr. Watkins then laid another stone.-' Mr. Poole, M.H.R., the Hon. James McGowan, and Mr. Baume also gave short addresses, la the evening a tea was held in the Wesleyan Sundayschool. The new church, which will seat 175, will be built of totara and rimu.
