WESTPORT HARBOUR.
PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Wellington-, Monday. Tub Premier and the Minister for Marine (Mr. Hall-Jones) were waited upon to-day by a deputation from the Westport Harbour Board with regard to improvement of the harbour. The deputation renewed the request for authority to construct a floating basin, which could be economically clone out of the Board's revenue. The basin would cover about 19 acres, and would accommodate six large vessels. It would cost about £103,900. The breakwater should bo extended on the Westport side. The Premier expressed some doubt as to the advisability of extending the breakwater. The experience of Greymouth was not encouraging. He was prepared to give authority for 200 ft to see how it acted. A strong argument for the floating basin was that it would increase the scour on the bar. The Ministers will place both matters before the Cabinet.
