MAYORAL ELECTIONS.

RE-ELECTION OF MR. MYERS. I'm: Mayoral elections, which took place yesterday, were not attended with any great interest, so far as Auckland and the immediate suburbs were concerned. Although a second candidate, was nominated for the City Mayoralty his candidature Mas not taken seriously, and the election \va<j not regarded as an actual contest, but as a mere legal formality The Onehunga Mayoralty was keenly contested, but in the other suburbs there were no elections. AUCKLAND CITY. The candidates for the Auckland Mayoralty were the present Mayor (Mr. A. M. Myers) and Mr. A. P. Bradly. As the result was looked upon as a foregone conclusion very little interest was token in the election, and the polling passed off very quietly. Out of a total of about 15,400 names on .the roll only 1684 electors took the trouble, to exercise their privilege. 158*1 votes being cast for Mr. Myers, ami 89 for the other candidate. The usual provisions tor a heavy poll, however, had to bo made, including the hiring and staffing of seven booths, and the defeated candidate, whilst forfeiting his £510 deposit, will also have the satisfaction of knowing that his candidature has put the city to considerable unnecessary expense, amounting probably to £75 or £80. Mr. T. Ussher acted as returning officer, and he had the returns completed about three-quarters of an hour after the closing of the poll. The details of the voting were as follows: — „. „ ~ Myers. The result, which was posted on the Herald board sltortly after being announced, was awaited by less than a dozen, people, and there was no demonstration of any kind. As the defeated candidate failed to pell one-eighth of the number of votes recorded for Mr. Myers, he will forfeit his deposit of £10. Amidst a scene of enthusiasm last evening, the returning officer (Mr. Horace A. Gordon 593 Informal ... 2?. ■Total votes polled 839 The return at the 1905 election was: — Gordon, 498; Rowe, 403. On that occasion Mr. Gordon had a majority of 90, while yesterday lie was 97 votes below Mi. Rowe. After the announcement was made, Mr. Rowe delivered an address from a neighbouring balcony, and was greeted with cheers. He concluded by calling for cheers for Mr. Gordon. WAIHI. [BY TIiLEGEArir.—OWN COEEESrOXUEXT.] Waihi, Wednesday. The election of Mayor and two members of the Council took place to-day, and a good deal of interest was taken in the election. The candidates for the Mayoralty were Messrs. T. Gilraour (present Mayor), J. Foster, and D. Donaldson. Mr. Gilmour was returned with a majority of 194 voles, the polling being:— Gilmour, 611; Foster, * 417 ; Donaldson, 249. The Mayor and the defeated candidates addressed the large assemblage outside the polling booth, and three cheers were then given for the Mayor. The election of two members of the Council resulted in the return of Messrs. J. H. Evans (561) and 11. Cartel (415). The other candidates were as follows :—R. Newdick (564), J. Geard (333), J. Dorance (261), T. Snow (191), J. Salt (2).

SOUTHERN RESULTS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Feilding, Wednesday. Mr. James W. B. Trewin was elected Mayor to-day amidst great enthusiasm. New Plymouth, Wednesday. - The Mayoral election resulted in the return of Mr. Edward Dockrill, with 776 votes, Mr. John B. Roy polling 427. Both candidates were ex-Mayors. The Stratford election resulted in the return of the present Mayor, Mr. N. J. King, by a majority of 205 votes. Napier, Wednesday. Mr. S. Carnell was to-day re-elected Mayor of Napier for a third term, defeating two ex-members of the Council, Messrs. McGrath and Cranby. Mr. T. J. Thompson, mi ex-member of the Council, was elected Mayor of Hastings, defeating the present Mayor, Mr. W. Y. Dennett, by 30 votes. Xklsox, Wednesday. Considerable interest was taken in the election of a Mayor for Nelson, which resulted in the return of Mr. Jesse riper, with a majority of 151 votes over Mr. J. B. Harrison. Mr'. N. Lock was 112 behind the second candidate. \Va.\-<;ant'i. Wednesday. The Mayoio.l election to-day resulted : I'. K. Mackay. 1171 (elected); A. G. Biguell (retiring Mayor), 1055. The contest was the keenest on record. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The following Mayoral election results have been received : —Onslow : Williams, 595 (elected); O'Regan, 239. Petone: London, 565 (elected); Findlay, 360. Marton, Wednesday. Mr. John F. Sicely was elected Mayor of Marton to-day by a majority of over 100 votes. Wksti'OßT, Wednesday. -Mr. G. H. Gothard was re-elected Mayor of Westpoit by a mwjoiity of 557 over Mr. T. Samuel. Gork, Wednesday. The Goie Mayoralty election resulted in She return of Mr. A. A. Mac Gibbon, who jiolled 408 votes, against Mr. J. Speden's 626. Chbistchurcji, Vi cdnesdny. As a result of the poll held to-day Mr. J. Richardson was re-elected Mayor of Woolston, the figures being:—J. Richardeon, 287; James Scott, 106. Mr. Richardson has now been elected Mayor of the borough eight times, the last live being ■vonsecutive. ;ur. S. K. At the Mayoral elections to-day Mr. jiauc Stevenson was elected for Port Chalmers, Mr. K. Moller for West Harbour, and Mr. John Campbell for Northcast Valley.
