CHURCH MEETINGS.

ST. PAUL*. THE annual meetuig of tho parishioners of St. Paul's parish was held in the schoolroom last evening, the vicar (the Hew Canon Nel- j son) presiding. There was a moderate at- ■ tendance. The vestry 's annual report stated that the j receipts for the past year amounted to £S1«, j and the expenditure (including £235 on account of debt to Standing Committee! to j £793, leaving a balance in hand of £12. The | offertories had amounted to £322, viz., general i £254 (£l3 short of last year), and special to £33 (a decrease of £9). The income from seat j rents had been £93. which showed a slight advance on last yeac- The "city fair." pro- | moted by the Ladies' Guild, had realised ; £270. At the same time the congregations at eleven and seven on Sundays were about tho same, and the general collections in church 110 greater. Tho incoming vestry needed over iilOO to do necessary work and to pay up current arrears on stipend and interest. The vestry expressed their keen appreciation of good work done by the members of the choir and teachers in the Sunday-school, and hoped lie next year of the parish history would be one of great activity and prosperity. The balance-sheet showed that the fancy fair had realised £115 0- 3d. which, after deducting £15 8s for expenses, left. tIOO. C- Tyke, S. (Jollard. W. Turkey. J. Warnoek, A. Ham on. M. Simpson. A. Haultain, H. Carter, CV Douglas, and 11. Midgley were elected vestrymen. Mr. Bronberger announced that an anonymous donor had handed him £10 as a thank-offering for blessings received through the ministry of the vicar, Eev. W. K. I nsh. It was stipulated by the giver that the sum should bo expended in the manner that the vestry thought best. A vote of than to the retiring officers, and to the choir, concluded the meeting.

Candidates for seals on the ' County Council I are bestirring themselves limiting up electors and : reminding them of their duty, at the same time giving evidence of the policy they intend to 1 pursue. There is undoubtedly considerable interest shown and likely to be heavy voting, as Council matters are somewhat unsatisfactory in this end of the electorate. A spell of mild weather is being experienced here just now, which is having a good effect on 1 autumn growth. ' The high price ruling for potatoes is having the effect of shipments being made to Auckland s with satisfactory results to the growers. ! Chaff-cutting is now in full swing. The higher , rate is causing farmers to hold on who were eager to quit a short time ago at £5 per ton. ' TE AROHA. i The election of members of the Hunga Hunga [ Drainage Board took place on Saturday, and the seats were keenly contested. Only about six , ratepayers of 88 on the roll failed to vote. The members returned were : Messrs. I). Waghorn 45, L T. llanna 44, H. Magill 43, T. Stanley 41, and W. i Lockver 32. The members elected form the - party anxious to carry out the drainage scheme. I'ATERANG I. , A QUIET but pretty wedding took place at lie residence of Air. W. Scott, when Miss Margaret, ■ the fifth daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. Scott, was married to Mr. Arthur W. Hall, the '■ youngest son of Mr. Robert Hall, of Remuera. ; The bride was attended by her sister (Miss Hazel . Scott) and the bridegroom was supported by his , cousin (Mr. J. L. Macky). The future ; home of the young couple will be at Papatoetoe. 5 11UNTLY. . > A special meeting of the lluntly Road Hoard C was held here on Saturday. Present: Messrs. J. I'. Bailey (chairman), E. S. Wight, L. B. Harris, ' jun., and R. T. Hill. A communication was re--1 cfived from the Premier, notifying the Board that the application for a portion of the royalty on coal mined under the Waikato River would re- > ceive the consideration of the Government at an early date. The Board then went into committee to consider applications for the position of clerk, 1 treasurer, collector, and returning officer to the 1 Board, the vacancv having occurred on account 1 of Mr. E. W. Tattley leaving the district. Mr. r David Hird was appointed to fill the position. _ The chairman spoke of the very satisfactory manner in which the duties had been carried out during Mr. E. \V. Tattler's term of office. Mr. E. W. Tattley returned thanks for the courtesy and consideration which had been invariably shown him by the chairman and members of the Board. Accounts to the amount of £52 4s 9d were passed for payment. TUAKAU. A very pretty wedding took place in St. John's Church on the 18th inst.., when Mr. Percy Rowe ' and Miss Daisv Booker, youngest daughter of > Mr. and Mrs. Booker, were married. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. F. B. Dobson, , and Mrs. G. Hunter presided at the organ. The * church, which was very nicely and tastefully '* decorated, was crowded. In the evening a large number of friends accepted the bridegroom's in- ? vitation to attend a social gathering in the hall, where all enjoyed themselves. HAMILTON*. A special meeting of the Borough Council was held on Friday evening. Applications for the position of sanitary contractor were dealt with, and Mr. Finlay uas appointed. The report ol the engineer in reference to the removal of the septic tank was dealt with. It was decided to adhere to the present site. The tender of the ? Waikato Argus for printing was accepted. It was decided to make the interest on the bonds payc able at the Bank of New Zealand, I- COROMANDEE. c The Coroniandel County election was held on Monday for the Coromandel and Cabbage d Bay ridings. Four members were wanted for the v Coroniandel riding, and there were five nonurv ations. The following are the results of the Coro inrle 1 and Driving Creek, poll : —Switidley 113 " Davis 115. .lames 111, .Teune 93, Darling 83. The Keritai returns have yet to come ill. but are not likely to affect, the result as far as th»» first. foul are "concerned.
