London, February 7. Mr. James Bonwick, the historian. is dead.
Mr. Bon wick was bom in London in 1817, and in 18*1 emigrated to Tasmania. He lived successively in Tasmania, South Australia, and Victoria. In the last-mentioned colony he was an inspector of schools. .He returned to England for the benefit of his health in 1870, and had his residence there, but made several visits to Australia. He wrote a large number of books dealing with phases of the early history of Ails' tralia and Tasmania.
