The repairs to the Settlers' Company's steamer Kapanui, which was sunk near the North Head on December 23 by the s.s. Claymore, are now nearing completion at the hands of the contractor, Mr. G. T. Niccol. When the Kapanui was raised she was taken over to the North Shore and placed on the Devonport Steam Ferry Company's slip, where the rent in her hull, made by the Claymore, was repaired by new planking. The Kapanui was brought over to Auckland yesterday morning, and berthed at the Queen-street Wharf, where she was an object of much interest to visitors on the wharf. It is expected that the Kapanui will recommence her running in the Auckland-Waiwera-Mahurangi trade in about a fortnight's time.
