CANADIAN IMMIGRATION.
RESTRICTIONS ASKED FOR.

Ottawa., February 7. The citizens of Toronto are sending a petition to the Governor-General, urging 'that legislation should he passed to ensure care in the selection of immigrants. The petitioners say that preference should be given to adults capable of maintaining themselves. Attention is drawn to the danger of undesirables from the poor of London and elsewhere, through the Salvation Army or Lord Rothschild's scheme, being introduced. Russian and Polish refugees aie described as objectionable and unsuitable.
